Have I gone mad? I’m pretty sure eating fresh fruits and vegetables boost your immune system. I’m pretty sure I was taught to crank up the amount of vitamin C you ingest so you don’t get sick. I’m pretty sure that when I get enough sleep and sunshine and reduce the stress and anxiety in my life, it helps to prevent me from coming down with the flu.
But according to the CDC and all the mainstream media sources, the only thing that will save you is getting a vaccine. Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot to mention masks, social distancing, and washing your hands a lot.
Help me out here, please! Especially those who are older than me. Is everything we learned from our parents obsolete? Has the dialogue changed so very much? Does anyone even know how to eat healthy anymore? Processed food is so convenient, affordable, and void of nutrients.
I apologize for sounding sarcastic and frustrated, but I AM VERY FRUSTRATED. On the CDC website under Preventative Steps, the flu shot is mentioned over and over, but NOT ONCE does it mention to boost your natural line of defence. I’m sure you still remember this saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Was that just folklore? Does no one believe that anymore? I read an article once about how incredibly powerful apples are for our health and I realized that it was more than just a saying. Eating an apple a day really does keep the doctor away.
I searched “boost immune system” on the CDC website, and the most frequent article that came up was that babies need to get vaccinated. There is not one mention of breast feeding and all the antibodies the mother’s milk has that gets transported beautifully into a baby’s body. When a mother is exposed to viruses and bacteria, she will produce additional antibodies in her own body that are transferred through her breast milk. Babies who drink their mother’s milk have the greatest chance of fighting infection and illness.
Of course, we at Comforts of Home – Care support social distancing and wearing of masks according to protocols. All the COVID rules during this Code Orange month are being strictly upheld.
The part that gets to me is the fact that our own body’s natural line of defense seems to be being ignored. The government could be supporting messages that would make people truly healthy from the inside out. I am a big supporter of eating whole organic fresh food. It was Hippocrates that said, “Let Food Be Thy Medicine.” My own diet consists of fresh fruit and vegetables, legumes, nuts, eggs, fish, and some chicken. I stay away from dairy, sugar, and too much meat. If everyone ate the way I eat, there would be very little sickness in this world. Unfortunately, this messaging is not getting out there. The new Canada Food Guide is wonderfully balanced. Why haven’t we heard more about it?
That being said, please feel 100 percent safe using our services at this time. Not one of our clients or caregivers have tested positive for the coronavirus. Contact 204.949.3234 to discuss caregiving options for you or your loved one.
